Project Compassion '08 - Your Prayer

Here we are. We are less than 48 hours away from the Project Compassion '08 D-Day.

Project Compassion '08 has brought in many first-time volunteers. Everyone is connected by a common calling - to bring out the angelic side of human kind and spread love to people around us.

You stood up to answer the call. Many of you stepped up to take lead and pro-active roles for the first time. With your dedications and sacrifices, your selfless acts have touched the hearts of many. Your selfless acts have rekindled that spirit of giving in many of us. You have shown what any ordinary person can do when you put great love into doing.

With your overwhelming supports, the bar has been raised for our volunteers. To match that, our volunteers have called for a final meeting this Saturday @3PM.

On Sunday, 14 December 2008, our brave young brothers and sisters will set off on this journey, knowing that your prayer will be with them.

Thank you for making Project Compassion '08 possible.

Project Compassion '08 - How will it be remembered?

Over the long weekend, preparation for Project Compassion '08 entered its high-gear.

Many of you took the time out to help in the final preparation. We are all excited and we have received generous amount of contributions in various forms.

This time, we have more good news for everyone. As many of you continue to give selflessly, your generous contribution helps us to fulfill another of their top wishlist item. Yes, we are buying a Heavy-duty blender machine for the center. Over the weekend, the fund-raising team has been working hard. They raised few hundreds dollars from non-XG members. Congratulations to the team!

We are entering the final stretch of the preparation. The tasks have been distributed. Big or small, everyone has a chance to make an impact to the life of others.

It is now up to you to determine how Project Compassion '08 will be remembered.

Together, our ordinary efforts will create extraordinary moments in the lives of our less fortunate brothers and sisters.

Project Compassion '08

Project Compassion 08 is launched!!! This time we are heading to a Handicapped and Mentally Disabled home at Saleng (Johor Bahru).

As you might have known, we had to limit participation to 45 people due to logistical issues. To our delight, we received overwhelming responses but there were only 30 places reserved for the youth.

We will be visiting the 'Handicapped and Mentally Disabled Children Association Center' on 14th December 2008. We are planning an exciting line-up of activities. There will be clown and magic show, face-painting, instant photo-taking, origami sessions and of course Christmas Carol by our youth team. We will be decorating the whole place and donating a Christmas tree. We will prepare goodie bags and indeed we have received special request from them which we will try our best to accommodate.

For those of you who will not be traveling with us on that day, you can still play your part. You can make a donation of any amount, $5 or $10 or $20. Currently, we are planning the 'goodies' that we will be putting and what we are going to have inside will be determined by the financial resources that we have.

Would you donate to help us fulfill the wishes of the children?

The budget for the whole event is going to be around $2000-$3000. Just to share with everyone on how the money is going to be distributed. Christmas tree and decoration materials will easily come to $150-$200. Goodie bags budgeted at $4-$5 and we are preparing 200 of them. Meal for 250 people budgeted at $600. Transport will cost $500. And many more...

Your small contribution will go a long way. Show your support for our 45-strong contingent and your contribution will be an appreciation and provide a moral support to our brave young boys and girls. If you would like to donate (any amount), please drop an email to Kevin or look for Kama (YiJia) when you drop by at Xing Guang FT.

Go Chen Xi Go...

Yoooo guys...

Thank God It's Friday (TGIF)... hahhaa... in fact we should be thankful everyday, not just Friday.

Anyway, in case some of you guys are not yet aware, Chen Xi team will be tag-teaming with the Batam team for the next major INLA Festivals in 2009. This time round, you guys will have the chance to travel all the way to BEIJING. Remember all the buzz and the dazzle from the recent Olympics?

So for those of you who are physically fit and have the PASSION for dancing, this is your MOMENT!!! To yourself, you will benefit from the physical and rigorous tuning of your body. Most importantly, you guys will have the chance to be Maitreya ambassador, showcasing what a Maitreya youth is like. One that exhibits youthfulness, hope and desire to bring joy to others.

Dr George (President of VSS), has this to comment about the recent dance performance:

"We live in a meat-eating world, with meat consumption on the rise.
Indeed, at most events I attend, whether they be wedding dinners, graduations, or events for my professional work, I'm surrounded by non-vegetarian food. Thus, it's always a pleasure to attend an event with exclusively vegetarian food, especially when the food is so tasty and varied. I was especially impressed by the large quantities of salad and fresh fruit.

Also, at most events I attend, the programme consists solely of speakers with the occasional video. Thus, it was such a pleasure to see the live dance performances by the young people from Batam and Singapore. The performances electrified the audience and thoroughly proved to any doubters that vegetarians can be full of energy. The enriching themes are the dances were especially inspiring. My only regret is that I missed the other live performances because I had to rush off to attend a Vegetarian Society (Singapore) meeting."

Be bold! Respond to your inner calling and take part in the audition! Here is the details:

Date/time : Sat, 01 Nov 08/ 5.30-8-00pm

Asian Vegetarian Congress 2009 - Calling for Volunteer

For those who were there last Sunday, we heard how Dr. George explained passionately about the need for us to change our diet to become a Vegetarian, from a non-Buddhist point of view.

Over the years, International Vegetarian Union (IVU) has been working together with regional Vegetarian Societies (such as Indonesian Vegetarian Society (IVS used to be known as KVMI) and Vegetarian Society of Singapore (VSS)) in organizing Asian Vegetarian Congress. In November 2009, the Congress will be held in Batam - Indonesia. There will be a close cooperation between IVS and VSS. Herewith, VSS has requested 5 volunteers to help with the language interpretation / translation task.

The Congress gives an excellent opportunity for IVS to show the world what vegetarianism means in Indonesia. A bigger event awaits in 2010 as it will be for the very first time that the International Vegetarian Congress will be held in Indonesia. Many more volunteers will be needed till then.

As fellow vegetarians, we should help our friends both in VSS and IVS when they need us. For those of you who are well-versed in English/Indonesian languages, your help will make a difference and essential to the success of the event.

PS: For info only to those interested, here is a link to Tc Susianto's recent interview with IVU. Over the years, Tc Susianto has been passionately promoting vegetarian lifestyle and has convinced many to change their diets. http://www.ivu.org/news/online/interviews/susianto.html

Twinkle twinkle little stars... How I wonder what you are... Up above the world so high... Like a diamond in the sky

Remember the times when we look up the night sky and the start counting the twinkling stars? Those moments are so magical and we feel as if we are so minute, living in the embrace of Mother Nature.

Here is a beautiful number that was featured in our recent anniversary celebration. Great job to Eddy & Power for the duet performance!!!

Enjoy... and... Feel free to post your comments...

It is only the beginning

30 years...

This is not the ending chapter of our history. BUT... This is only the beginning of a new chapter. In life, we take on more responsibility and hold more accountable in what we are doing as we grow older. This is also true for XG.

There is so much more to do and many more goals (set by Hao Che Da Di and all our founding fathers) that we have yet to accomplish. Everyone of you play an important role in shaping the future of XG and Tao propagation in Singapore.

This year, for the very first time in the history of Singapore Tao development, our FT is organizing a health screening exercise. We have opened up this event for all so that you may invite your friends, relatives or colleagues to participate. Help us reach the goal of 60 participants to make this event possible. You can register by replying to this blog or drop a line to ixingguang@yahoo.com.

Remember, ask not what FT can do for you, but ask what you can do for FT

30th Anniversary - Opening Special

Congratulations XG!!! We are thirty this year...

For all volunteers, performers and behind-the-scene supporters, everyone did an amazing job!!! You guys volunteer with a big heart and the humility to serve and bring joy to the people around. The choir team and solo (duet) perfomers put up such a courageous show. Your beautiful voice resonates through the hall and it was a thirst quencher to the souls. The dance team displayed an energetic and confidence but yet deep humility and graciousness of a Maitreya youth. Last but not least, to everyone who supported this event and yet chose to remain anonymous. Well done, ALL!!!

Here is the short opening of the event. Enjoy...
